End of Year Message

Wed, Dec 23, 2020

Members,

It’s quite hard to believe that it has been over a year since our organization has been able to gather as a group. Canceling both the Spring and Fall 2020 conferences was both the easiest and hardest decision to make. We hope that you can trust that in the absence of our events the Board and Chair members have been hard at work behind the scenes doing what we can to support you and move forward given the current circumstances. We are so incredibly thankful for your grace, support, and most importantly your unique contributions as members of our organization. When the day finally comes that we can again gather in a group, there is no doubt the speakers will feel that much more enlightening and there will be uproarious laughter into the early mornings from the hospitality room as we simply enjoy the company of those who were knee deep in situations similar to our own.

2020 has been a year like no other in our lifetime. From the COVID-19 pandemic to nationwide demonstrations in the fight for racial justice, interrupted only by the worst wildfire season our beautiful home state of Oregon has seen to date, it’s likely many of you may feel as though you’re limping to the finish line – and that’s okay! You are not alone in this feeling. It is our hope as an organization that much brighter days lie ahead of us.

The holidays may seem disheartening with all that is going on. Though they may look different, we hope that in the midst of the difficulties and changes you find peace in the spirit of the season, warmth from the love of your family and friends even if it cannot be shared in person, and plenty of joy as you reflect on the things you can be thankful for.

From all of us at OFSOA, we want to wish you a very safe holiday season and may the New Year bring good health, happiness, and an end to the COVID-19 pandemic!
